Berwickshire Shellfish Symposium Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) and the Berwickshire Marine Reserve hosted the first Berwickshire Shellfish Symposium in October 2019. This brought together fishermen, scientists, policy makers, NGOs and industry merchants to discuss crab and lobster research both regionally and nationally, and the future of the local fishery. Following the success of the first symposium BLUE and the BMR intend to make this an annual event to focus on the Berwickshire shellfish region, providing recommendations and positions statements to government. Outputs have been shared with attendees and a steering / working group has been created to develop a vision and regional management plan for the crab and lobster fishery in Berwickshire.
