It is closely related to the American lobster. It may grow to a length of 60 cm (24 in) and a mass of 6 kilograms (13 lb) and bears a conspicuous pair of claws. Description: Common Shore Crabs are the crab species you are most likely to encounter in the rockpools. They are usually green in colour, and have two arc-shaped lines on their shell (or carapace). Find them by carefully lifting rocks and seaweed, but remember to always put them back where they were hiding! Did You Know? Female crabs carry their eggs under her abdomen flab on the underside of her body. The eggs are usually orange in colour. Please take extra care if you come across any crab on the rocky shore carrying their precious eggs.
